Background:
Sledge was a son of a farmer. In the midst of the chaos following the great cataclysm Sledge went from having a loving family to having nothing at all. His home was burned and his family killed while he watched in hiding, too afraid to do anything but piss himself, and then cry once the men were gone. He stooped over the remains of his parents and sister and bawled his eyes out for hours. Without much thinking he walked out on his own with just the clothes on his back and a few possessions in a bag. From there on he was taken into service to fight since he was young and had two hands that could hold a pitchfork. After some time of fighting his way through improbable odds without much help and adorning himself with loot from battles he began to look a fearsome picture. His name not known by anyone he was given a new one after he had proved himself in numerous battles. While other peasant folk died around him, the young lad still kept going, for some strange reason keeping the will to survive, after all, he had nothing to lose. Flashes of his dead family and the men that had taken everything from him would play in his mind as he flew into rages during battle. With combat behind him when offered ale he would suck it down to forget who he had been, the memory of what happened to him was more painful to recall than any wound he had received in battle. When fighting into a village of those defending the Children of the Forest he stood in front of a family with his fellow soldiers. He saw a boy cowering in fear as the rest of the men had their way with the women. He raised his hammer high and bashed the boy's brain in.
*12ish years later*
Sledge is now in the service of a noble house. The fearful boy was gone, replaced with a fearsome warrior who charged headlong into fights without much thinking. The memories were still there of the pain, but they were washed away with the help of ale, mead, and any strong liqour.
